Critical Actions for Educators Assessment System
In Canyons District, assessments are integral to creating an effective and responsive educational environment that fosters student growth and achievement.
Assessments provide essential feedback that: identify gaps in student learning measure learning progress
Ensure that assessments are aligned to standards Use assessment data to determine if initial instruction was sufficient (at least 80% of students got it) or if more instruction is needed Use assessment data to determine which students need further support or extension Choose a variety of assessment types to match purpose of assessment Utilize assessment data on Data Dashboard
identify student strengths and areas of improvement enable teachers to tailor instruction for diverse learners Good assessments allow educators to adjust instruction in real-time, and ensure that learning objects are being met. Educators in Canyons District utilize a wide variety of assessments to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of student learning. These assessment types include: Classroom Formative Summative District-wide Benchmark Assessments (DWSBA) Diagnostic/Screening Skill Diagnosis Progress Monitoring Utilizing these assessments at designated times throughout the year, and analyzing the data using CSD’s Data Dashboard, help ensure student needs are met.
