Alphabet Mat/Arc
Purpose: RF.1.3. b. Decode regularly spelled one-syllable word. Use short vowel and hard consonant sounds How: T say s the spoken word S repeats the spoken word T tap s out the sound s with their fingers S tap s out the sounds with their fingers S map sthe sounds by moving one chip into each box, representing each sound in the word. S graphs the individual sounds by bringing down the individual letter tiles while saying each letter sound in the word.
Tracking Mat
Purpose: RF. K . 1 . e. Substitute, Add or Subtract individual sounds (phonemes) in a continuous list of one- syllable words. (word chains)
How:
T say the old word T say the new word T point to each block and say each of the sounds in the OLDword T point to each block and say the sounds in the NEW word T Change the block that corresponds to the changed sound and blend the word Repeat for 10 words.
S runs their finger under the letter tiles as they orally blend the sounds and say the whole word. S write s the individual letters (graphemes) that represent the individual sounds in the word in the bottom row of boxes.
Cardinal Rule: one change at a time Start with CVC & substitute sounds
