Glossary of Terms Acadience : A comprehensive assessment tool used for universal screening, progress monitoring, and data management. It provides teachers, administrators, and parents with continuous student assessment.
CBM : Curriculum-Based Measurement—A type of assessment that measures overall performance in key foundational skills that is predictive of reading and math achievement.
Frontloading : A powerful instructional strategy where teachers preteach key concepts to students to prepare them for upcoming instruction.
NWF : Nonsense Word Fluency—CBM Assessment that measures a student’s ability to link the written code with most common sounds
Progress Monitoring : A scientifically based practice that measures students’ academic performance and evaluates the effectiveness of instruction. Progress monitoring can be done with individual students or an entire class.
PSF: Phonemic Segmentation Fluency—CBM Assessment that measures a student’s ability to hear the critical sounds in spoken words
ORF : Oral Reading Fluency —Measures the number of words read correct per minute on a grade-level passage. ORF provides a highly reliable and valid measure of general reading achievement. RtI: Response to Intervention—A framework that identifies academic and behavioral needs and improvements needed in instructional quality where students are provided with the best opportunities to succeed in school.
SI Lessons: Strategic Intervention Lessons—Instructional lessons found in Reading Street Teacher’s Edition at the end of each week’s instruction in the yellow pages.
Skill-Based Instruction —small group instruction provided by the classroom teacher for students with similar academic needs
