How Many Syllables?
What is the firstsound?
“What is the first sound you hear in the word tea?” /t/ “What is the first sound you hear in the word sing?” /s/ “What is the first sound you hear in the word fence?” /f/ “What is the first sound you hear in the word juggle?” /j/ “What is the first sound you hear in the word knight?” /n/ “What is the first sound you hear in the word cheese?” /ch/ Student orally provides the label for the picture and then isolates the first sound of the word. Purpose : RF.1. 2. c. Isolate and pronounce initial, medial and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words. How: Teacher says:
Purpose : RF.1.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables and sounds (phonemes).
How : Teacher says:
“How many syllables in picnic?” 2 “How many syllables in refrigerator?” 5 “How many syllables in hippopotamus?” 5 “How many syllables in car?”1 “How many syllables in butterfly?” 3 • Teacher (T) says the word orally • Student (S) repeats the whole word orally • Student (S) segments the word and physically counts the syllables • Student (S) repeats the whole word by blending the parts
