Phonemic Awareness Administering the Test Copy the Scoring Guide from p. T•30. Administer the test orally, one-on-one to individual students.
The leveled tests focus on skills generally mastered at three grade levels: Level 1, Kindergarten through Grade 1 Level 2, Grade 2 through early Grade 3 Level 3, Grade 3 through Grade 5
Based on observation and evaluation tools, teachers will know the level at which intervention may benefit the student, regardless of the grade in school. To determine the level in which to place a student, begin with the Level 1 test. If the student achieves benchmark scores on all topics, move to Level 2 tests.
For each section of the test:
1. Model the process as described. 2. Have the student use the process to respond to your prompts. 3. Underline the student’s correct responses on the Scoring Guide. 4. Record the number of correct responses in the space provided. 5. Note the benchmark score.
Interpreting Results and Placing the Student Discontinue testing when a student is unable to reach the benchmark score for two consecutive sections of a test. Use intervention mini-lessons at this level to help students build skills. Students require more intensive intervention if they continue to struggle with lesson topics. Place these students in the My Sidewalks on Scott Foresman Reading Street program for intensive daily intervention.
