Teach the fielding students about passing the ball to one another–it’s faster than one student running the ball to you. Review safety with this game ● With several kickballs being kicked at once, students must be aware while running the bases as well as paying attention while fielding.

Debrief

Ask the following: ● How did we use teamwork while fielding the balls? ● What was the best strategy to return the kickball? ● Where can we play this game during recess? Ultimate Kickball

Show How How to Play:

● Split the class up into two teams, having one start as the “kicking” team and the other spread out in the field. ● As the pitcher, you will pitch for both teams, helping the fielding team out as well as pitching fairly to the kicking team. ● In this game, after a student kicks the ball, they may run the bases at whatever speed they want. Students may pass each other while running back towards home plate while others can remain safely at any base. ● The fielding team can get “outs” by: ○ Catching the ball in the air after it’s kicked. ○ Safely tagging a player between bases . ● If a student gets out, they must return to the kicking line instead of continuing running the bases. ● There are no foul balls ○ If using a backstop outside, assign a “catcher” for the fielding team. ● The fielding team will return the ball as quickly to you (or tag runners). Once the ball is back to the pitcher, students must freeze at the base they are at or closest to. ● Switch teams after everyone has kicked once.
