Show How How to Play:

● Split the class up into two teams, having one start as the “kicking” team and the other spread out in the field. ● As the pitcher, you will pitch for both teams, helping the fielding team out as well as pitching fairly to the kicking team. ● You will roll the ball towards home plate, where the first kicker will kick the ball, keeping it between the first and third bases. After they kick, they will run to first base. ● The fielding team will try to get that runner out by: ○ Catching the ball in the air ○ Tagging a runner when they aren’t on a base ○ Tagging a base before the runner gets to it ● If a runner gets out, they return to their team's kicking line. ● Once the ball is returned to the pitcher, runners must freeze at the base they are at or closest to. ● A run is scored once the runner gets back to home plate after running safely through all of the other bases. ● Once each student has kicked, switch teams. Even if they other team gets Review how to run around the bases and what consists of an “out” ● While students may understand how catching a fly ball and tagging a student is an out, clearly go over the “advancing” rule, where only one student can be on a base at a time. (If a student is already on 1st base, they must run to 2nd after the next student has kicked, or else the fielding team can throw the ball to 2nd base/tag the base instead of the runner) Although teams normally switch after three “outs”, explain that you want everyone to get a chance to kick in this game. The outfield will still attempt outs so the other team doesn’t score runs, but will only switch once everyone has a turn (This also helps with arguing over kicking order!)
