FLEXIBLE PACING STANDARDS

REPORTING STANDARDS

KEY LANGUAGE USE

● Make or break apart numbers from 11-19 into tens and ones

Standard of Mathematical Practice #7: Look for and make use of structure. Content Standards: Standard K.NBT.1 Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones. Use objects or drawings and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation. For example, 18 =10+8. Understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, fve, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.

End of Unit Competency

By the end of Topic 5, students will be able to explain how composing and decomposing numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones helps understand place value. Language Functions and Features: ● Mathematical terms ( tens, ones, number, break apart, groups of, represent, compose, decompose ) ● Visuals ( drawings, counters ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( 1 group of ten and 8 more is 18. )
