Phenomena Introduction

Show this youtube video about sinkholes and do a CER to answer the question: What causes sinkholes to form? Have students fll out an initial CER then answer the question. Explain that they will have many opportunities to revisit this CER as they learn more. (Optional: Can tell them they can use CER on the test so to be thorough.) Show the picture of a clear river from engage part of the lesson and have students fll out a KWL, and vocab sheet from the science notebook. (Vocab will be flled out during reading. Focus Question: What happens to surface water that does not soak into the ground? -Play the incredible Journey game (will need to build) -Graph water resources -Read in the book Runoff through Stream Floods (pg 161-166) Have students read Science Notebook questions before reading and underline or highlight answers while reading.
