Group 1 Lesson Plan: Leveled Readers
Focus of Instruction:
1. Close Reading for Critical Thinking and Discussion 2. Building Vocabulary: within context as needed to build background knowledge. 3. Discussion with evidence 4. Writing -- Shared Writing (students are discussing and instructor is recording ideas)
*Instruction will take between 6 and 10 days. Grayed out lessons are optional depending on time.

● Read the Essential Question to set the purpose for the Genre Study. “Today we will be reading to/for ____.” ● Read: Read the complete Leveled Reader ○ Use the Scaffolding Difficult Text ○ Discussion: Look for evidence and discuss the Essential Question ● Ideas web shared write: Have students build a graphic organizer ideas web to answer the essential question and to note important events, information, or questions. ● Read the Essential Question to set the purpose for the Genre Study. ● “Today we will be reading to/for ____.” ● Refer to the selected re-reads identified by the Leveled Reader Lesson Card section or chapter 1 only (one chapter per session is recommended) ● Begin with reviewing the Essential Question ● Ask the questions after the reread portion identified on the card ● Discuss the Comprehension Check ● Write the Comprehension Check: Students write the answer to the Comprehension Check question. ● Discuss the Essential Question and add to
