Butler Elem Faculty Handbook 19-20 V2
TARDINESS (Students and Teachers) 1) Students are required to be on time. Three tardies equal one absence. • Teachers will make contact by phone or email as soon as tardies become a concern. 2) Teachers are expected to follow contract time including arriving to work on time every day (see Building Hours). • In general, the eight-hour contract day runs from 7:55-3:55. • You may make arrangements with the principal to adjust those hours by coming in 30 minutes early and leaving 30 minutes early from time to time. • It is important that we keep predictable hours for our patrons. Parents have a reasonable expectation of finding teachers at school from 7:55-3:55. Please notify the office if you are going to be late. TEACHER OBSERVATIONS Mr. Nalwalker will visit all classrooms regularly (even daily) to conduct informal observations, walk-throughs or just hang out. He will conduct formal observations according to district guidelines. TEACHER LEAVING CLASSROOMS “Under normal circumstances teachers should not leave their classes.” Duplicating materials, making phone calls, and other activities, which take the teacher out of the classroom, leaving students unsupervised, should be avoided. When it is necessary to leave the class (i.e. student illness or injury, etc.) ask a nearby teacher to supervise the class for the short period you are gone. This should happen only rarely! TEACHER PLANNING TIME/LESSON PLANS Plans are essential to any school program and this is especially true in the flexible type program of the modern elementary school. Making daily, weekly, and yearly plans for the learning experiences of students is imperative. When your own children are in the building during school time or planning time, it is important they do not impact your contract time. Always be conscious of the impact your children are having on other staff members. TELEPHONE USE The telephone is for school business. Students are to be screened by the teacher before they are allowed to use the telephone. Students will need a written telephone pass from their teacher to use the telephone in the office. Teachers and other staff members shall always be courteous and avoid using the telephones for long personal conversations.
Do not allow students to use personal cell phones during school.
