Butler Elem Faculty Handbook 19-20 V2
SEXUAL HARASSMENT The Board of Education has formed the district policy prohibiting sexual harassment. As a school, we follow this policy. In general, sexual harassment is behavior of a sexual nature that is unwelcome by the receiver and impedes a person’s ability to function in his/her capacity. Sexual harassment is not allowed and will not be tolerated. Please report any acts related to sexual harassment to the principal. See Appendix SPECIAL EDUCATION REFERRALS Before a referral can be made, a teacher needs to have tried and documented two interventions for a minimum of three weeks each. Classroom teachers should consult with the Student Study Team as necessary. If you have questions, talk to the principal or the achievement coach (AC). The AC has many resources to help with appropriate, research-based interventions. Make sure your intervention is appropriate before you start to avoid starting the process over again. Sign up for the SST with the school psychologist. Get moving on these early! STUDENT BELONGINGS Parents are encouraged to label all items belonging to students. Students are advised not bring toys, money, electronic devices, or PE equipment to school. The school assumes no responsibility for items lost or damaged at school. If a teacher or staff member confiscates a student’s personal property, it must either be returned directly to the student at the end of the day or a parent must be notified and arrangements made for the parent to collect the item. It is the teacher’s responsibility to contact the parent and to protect the security of items confiscated. SUPERVISION Students must be supervised at all times . It is expected that staff members will be present and on time to assigned duties. All staff members are expected to maintain order in the halls and during activities. If a student is missing, notify the office immediately. It is every staff member’s responsibility to ensure that all students are supervised and safe at all times. Students should NEVER be left alone . SUPPLIES Teresa (our head assistant) will keep the supply rooms stocked with commonly used items. Please be prudent in using school supplies and do not hoard items in your room. Thank you for your cooperation! SUSPENSION Teachers may not suspend or send students home. Please refer to the office if you feel a student should be removed from the class for longer than a short intervention to another room. Students must check out at the office before leaving school for any reason.
