Topic 7 Represent and Interpret Data
FLEXIBLE PACING STANDARDS
REPORTING STANDARDS
KEY LANGUAGE USE
● Generate, represent, and interpret data using scaled graphs and line plots
Standard of Mathematical Practice #6: Attend to precision.
Topics 5-8
Explain
Nov 4 - Jan 24
Content Standards: Standard 3.MD.3 Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent fve pets.

End of Unit Competency
By the end of Topic 7 students will be able to explain how to represent, analyze and interpret data.
Language Features & Functions Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using:
● Mathematical terms ( picture graph, bar graph, scale, key, survey) ● Past tense thinking verbs ( remembered, thought, fgured out ) to recount steps ● Visuals ( picture graphs, frequency table, bar graph ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Observations ( notice, it appears, looks like ) and comparative language ( different from, similar to, the same ) to share results ( I noticed Mary ran two more miles in Weeks 2 and 3 combined than in Week 1 because.. .) ● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( The bar would end on the 3rd grid line because… )
