Appropriate Use of AI in CONTENT
Make it Transparent
Social studies is built on inquiry, evidence, and disciplinary thinking. AI can support learning, but students remain responsible for their own interpretations, conclusions, and communication. Students should not cite AI as a historical source, rather a tool to help them with the inquiry process. Being transparent with AI expectations might look like this:
AI Expectations for Today’s Tasks
Revising a CER or DBQ Response
Use AI to provide feedback on organization, clarity, and use of evidence, but revisions remain the student's own work.
Analyzing Primary Sources
Student thinking must be independent of AI.
Building Background Knowledge
AI may clarify vocabulary or summarize historical context, but information must be verified using credible sources.
