The goal of Read 180 CODE is to accelerate the acquisition of literacy skills so that students can access grade-level standards. Even though Read 180 CODE is designed for, and respectful of, students who read below grade-level, it ultimately shares the same goals that the Common Core State Standards put forth: that students are able to read, question, comprehend, and respond to increasingly complex texts. Read 180 CODE exposes students to a wide range of increasingly complex quality texts, while providing them the scaffolding they need to access, comprehend, and respond to grade-level content and standards. The instruction also provides daily opportunities for writing and teaches students how to support their arguments with textual evidence.
