Read 180 CODE Overview

Overview This instructional guide provides guidance for planning instruction using the Utah Core Standards and the R180 CODE curriculum. R180 CODE is a foundational reading program designed to support older struggling readers on their path to literacy. It provides students with personalized progression through the Instructional Software and explicit instruction in comprehension and writing. These program components help students master the foundational reading skills required for success with the Utah Core Standards. Blended Learning Model R180 CODE follows a comprehensive, blended learning model. The blended learning model combines adaptive technology that targets individual needs in foundational reading skills with teacher-guided state-of-the-art, face-to-face classroom learning. Blended learning balances the role of teachers and technology so that each can effectively do what they do best. Flexible Rotation R180 CODE features a flexible rotation model designed to help teachers address students at all levels of intervention. This model organizes class time to provide a balance of teacher-led instruction, scaffolded practice, and small-group interaction. It is designed to maximize instruction time and accelerate achievement. R180 CODE supports educators as they guide students to become confident, capable readers. Program Details R180 CODE primarily focuses on the key foundational literacy skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency. It provides daily lessons for students who need foundational skills instruction. The ReaL Book: Code is built on a systematic scope and sequence that teaches students to decode and encode accurately and automatically, preparing them for deeper comprehension work provided by the ReaL Book: Workshop. Lessons are organized into Segments (25 total) that develop the full range of foundational literacy skills: ■ Phonological and phonemic awareness routines exist as stand-alone lessons for students who need these key fundamental skills and are also built into the start of each phonics lesson to help connect word sounds to print . ■ Systematic and explicit instruction in phonics, morphology, and high-frequency words helps students “crack the code .” ■ A robust scope and sequence of fluency and comprehension helps students apply their phonics knowledge to connected text .
