Whole Group Learning

● All instruction takes place in a Whole Group Setting. ● All students participate in the 2-4 parts of Access Newcomers Lesson for the class period - Look and Explore, Say and Write (Level 1); Look and Explore, Listen and Talk, Reading and Write, and Develop Language (Levels 2-4) ● Supplement Instruction by expanding activities to include student cultural offerings and presentation. ● Most instruction takes place in a Whole Group Setting, with some practice progressing towards Partner Pair Practice and group work in the end sections of the lesson (Read and Write, Develop Language, Wrap Up and Asses). ● If students will be using a Student Application in quarters 2-3, Whole Group could be reduced to teaching the “Big Idea” as other parts of the lesson are taught in small groups. ● In levels 2-4 of Access Newcomers, the “Read and Write” and “Develop Language” sections of lessons have activities that can be completed in pairs or groups. The teacher should still be monitoring closely. ● The System 44 Student Application is added to supplement Access Newcomers and provide variety to the ELD classroom, any parts of the lesson after the “Big Idea” could be taught in a small group setting.
