Literacy Intervention Overview
Students are placed in Literacy Classes based on their proficiency levels in comparison to their grade level. Students who assess below basic range on the Reading Inventory (RI) should be placed in a reading intervention course until they reach proficiency. Canyons School District offers a variety of literacy intervention classes. Secondary Literacy Interventions using the Read 180 Suite Secondary literacy intervention classes utilize three programs to differentiate instruction based on individual student needs. Read 180 Universal Read 180 Universal is a comprehensive, blended learning solution proven to accelerate the reading levels of students in Grades 4-12. Read 180 supports teachers with guiding your students to become confident, capable readings. System 44 Next Generation System 44 Next Generation is a foundational reading program designed to support older struggling readers on their path to literacy. It provides students with personalized progression through the Instructructional Software and explicit instruction in comprehension and writing. ACCESS Newcomers The Access program is a multi-level standards-based program suitable for middle school and high school for beginning Multilingual Learners. It builds students’ understanding of the big ideas in English, math, science, and social studies while developing their language proficiency in English.
