McGraw Hill Unit 2: Using Energy

GRADE 4 SCIENCE

Module: Energy Transfer

Total Time: 430 Min. About 3 Weeks

Lesson 2: Sound & Light Lesson 3: Electricity Lesson 4: Heat *Components from McGraw Hill Lessons 2 - 4 will be utilized to teach standards 4.2.3 & 4.2.4. The Module Opener will be used for the phenomena instead of the individual lesson phenomena.

I am learning about heat and thermal energy so that I can understand how thermal energy is transferred. Success Criteria: I’ll know I have learned it when I can use academic science vocabulary to describe how thermal energy is transferred. I am learning an investigation so that I can show how heat and light energy is transferred. Success Criteria: I’ll know I have learned it when I can draw and label a diagram showing the fow of energy as it moved through the solid when it was heated. I am learning how to create a device that uses energy from the sun to cook food. Success Criteria: I’ll know I have learned it when my device can cook food. I am learning about how light, sound, heat, and electrical currents transfer energy. Success Criteria: I’ll know I have learned it when I can identify and explain the 4 types of energy transfer that occurs in a city.
