Warm Up and Soccer Smash

I can… 3rd: Kick a ball along the ground while running.

4th: Apply the concept of open spaces with combination skills. 5th: Use basic defensive and offensive strategies in small group games.

Materials/ Space Needed Home Base (Baseline, Sideline or Circle with paint or cones to mark boundary) Large rectangle boundary with half court line 2 Soccer Balls (or soft balls that are kickable) 10 Tall Cones (5 per team) 4 cones (boundaries) Vocabulary Combination Skills: One or more skills being put together. By dribbling over to an open space, I combined my skills of dribbling with open space.

Defensive vs. Offensive: The act of protecting or guarding vs. the act of driving forward or attacking. To win at Soccer Smash, our team must have defensive and offensive strategies.

Introduction

Begin class with a warm up procedure: ● Prepare students with daily expectations before entering the gym OR on Home Base. ● Warm up procedure may include several laps around the gym, stretching routine, or another quick, movement based activity. ● Back at Home Base, review rules/expectations of the school and

PE/Playworks with explicit examples when appropriate. ● Review any other specific reminders needed for the day.

Before releasing students for the first game, use a Sequence Touch to get them to the location you need them to be for the first activity.
