4th: Maintain control dribbling a soccer ball and pass back and forth with a partner. 5th: Dribble and pass a soccer ball while moving.
Materials/ Space Needed Home Base (Baseline, Sideline or Circle with paint or cones to mark boundary) Soccer Balls (1 per pair of students) Cones (1 per team of 4-6 students) Vocabulary Dribble: To move along with repeated kicks. While tapping the ball with my foot and moving forward, I dribbled to the other side of the court.
Control: To hold back or manage something. Instead of kicking the ball too hard, I controlled the power of my kick.
Introduction
Begin class with a warm up procedure: ● Prepare students with daily expectations before entering the gym OR on Home Base. ● Warm up procedure may include several laps around the gym, stretching routine, or another quick, movement based activity. ● Back at Home Base, review rules/expectations of the school and
PE/Playworks with explicit examples when appropriate. ● Review any other specific reminders needed for the day.
Before releasing students for the first game, use a Sequence Touch to get them to the location you need them to be for the first activity.
Partner Passing
Show How How to Play:
● Have students spread out across the gym, shoulder to shoulder, one half on one side of the court, the other half facing them. ● In partners, students will stand at least five feet between them. Student A will begin with the ball while student B will wait for the pass. ● Student A will kick the ball to student B, who will control it by stopping the ball with their foot. They will pass back to student A. ● If both students are able to control their passes, they can each take one stepback.
