Practice andPlay
Choose four students to help model a round of 4 square in slow motion. You will begin as the server, demonstrate a correct serve, then show the rotation of players based on the outcome of the round. ● Hits must be with hands (palms) with either fingers pointing up or down. Students may hit with one or two hands. ● If there is a disagreement with where a ball landed, remind students to use RSB or you can have the next person in line be the “referee”. Make sure they understand how to be fair and kind when giving that feedback. ● Because this game may have students who are more skilled than others, have students cheer each other on while waiting in line and give high-fives to promote a positive experience for all playing. Some students may prefer to join the game in #4, making it a goal to get to the server square. In PE, you want to make sure students get to practice the skills so they are successful at recess, where that rule may apply. Numbers (1-4), letters (A-D) or color poly spots may be used to help students learn the rotation.
Debrief
Ask the following:
● What strategies did you use to be more successful in 4 square? ● How did it feel when your classmates encouraged you? ● Where can we play this game during recess? WrapUp
Review Review I can… statements
Final Debrief: ● How else can we encourage our classmates during games? ● What will you play during recess?
End class with Closing Procedure.
