Attention Getters Attention Getters: Use to capture a group of students' attention in a fun way! By using lots of energy and volume, these can get a big group of students ready to listen to the next set of directions
Match Me Say “Match me” and perform an easy action for students to match. If You Can Hear Me… You say “If you can hear me...” followed by an action or request. Call Objects Call out random objects and challenge the students to keep up. Teach actions prior to challenging students. Clap Patterns Clapping loudly and students respond with clapping patterns back.
Wiggle fingers and touch your shoulders, move between head, knees, etc. Speed it up to make it a challenge and freeze!
~If you can hear me, clap three times! ~If you can hear me, yell yeehaw! ~If you can hear me, circle up/line up...
Penguin=Hands flat on their sides.
Pencil=Hands straight up above their heads. (Any animals/objects they can freeze in)
Superhero=Arms held forward like they’re flying
A few ways to do this: ~They have to match how many you do. ~They respond to a pattern (clap 2 times, they clap 3 times to create chacha, chachacha)
Call and Response
When I say (word), you say (other word)... ~First/GRADE! ~First grade/ROCKS!
These can be ANYTHING that makes you and the students smile! Similar to calling objects, they can use body movement to match what you’re calling out plus being able to yell out. You say the first part and the students respond with the second
~Bumpity-Bump-Bump/BUMP-BUMP! ~Yo-yo-yo First Grade/Yo-yo-yo Coach! ~Alligator, Alligator/CHOMP, CHOMP, CHOMP! (With hands making a chomping motion) ~Banana/SPLIT (on Student’s part they put their arms out to the side and then slap them down again) ~Milk/SHAKE (on student’s part they run in place/shake for 2 seconds and then stop) ~Fire/WORKS (on student’s part they jump up in the air and ‘explode’) ~Mashed/POTATO (on student’s part they crouch down and touch their toes and then stand back up) ~Earth/QUAKE (on student’s part they hold their arms out and shake before slapping them back down to their sides)
