Jump Rope Variations

I can… 3rd: Perform jump rope skills using long and short ropes OR perform dance steps. 4th: Create and perform a jump rope routine with either a long or short rope by myself and with a small group OR perform a dance with others. 5th: Create a jump rope routine with a partner, using either a short or long jump rope OR perform a dance with correct rhythm.

Materials/ Space Needed

HomeBase Large circle (cones or painted lines) Music (appropriate songs) Speaker Based on activity: Chinese Jump Rope (1 per group) Short and Long Jump Ropes

Tinikling Poles Dance Stations Vocabulary Dance: To move our body to music. We all danced to the song our teacher played.

Rhythm: Movement matched repeating sounds. I followed the rhythm of the music when we danced together.

Introduction

Begin class with a warm up procedure: ● Prepare students with daily expectations before entering the gym OR on Home Base. ● Warm up procedure may include several laps around the gym, stretching routine, or another quick, movement based activity. ● Back at Home Base, review rules/expectations of the school and

PE/Playworks with explicit examples when appropriate. ● Review any other specific reminders needed for the day.

Before releasing students for the first game, use a Sequence Touch to get them to the location you need them to be for the first activity.
