● When you say “Pumpkin face”, students should stretch as far out as they can (arms, mouth, eyes, legs, etc.) ● When you say “Raisin face”, students should try to shrink every bit of their body (eyes, mouth, legs, etc.) ● Go back and forth between the two, giving students chances to get as big or as small as they can. Define “curling” and “stretching” as they curl into a tiny ball or stretch out as wide as possible. Return to Home Base and ask the following: ● How did your body feel when it stretched out? Curled up? ● What other objects could we stretch as? Animal Stretches ● Spread out the cones evenly in a large circle. Each cone should have one animal card, face down. ● Split students up evenly between each cone. ● On your “Go Word”, students will flip over their card and review the stretch. Once they understand the pose, they will hold it for 5-10 seconds. ● After the 10 seconds are up, call out “Rotate!” to have students move to the cone next to them. Students will rotate through all the stretches and end with the one they started. ● If there is extra time, allow them to choose a pose to practice on their own. Review each Animal Stretch before students go to their cones. ● This can be done in Home Base. ● Explicitly say what the pose is for (flexibility, balance, strength) Help model what a pumpkin and raisin look like and practice with them.
