● The receiving team must catch the ball before it hits the ground. The first person who catches it will toss it to another teammate, who will toss it to one more teammate, who will throw it back over the net. ● The pattern of catch, pass, and throw will continue with both teams until either: ○ A team allows the ball to touch the ground on their side. ○ A team throws the ball outside of the boundaries ○ A team takes more than three attempts to get the ball over the net. ○ If a team commits an error, they will not rotate until the other team commits an error. ● When any of those errors happen, the team that receives the ball rotates clockwise, with the students waiting in line joining in as the server. The student who was in the front right side will rotate to the end of the line. The server will throw the ball over the net and the game will continue. Review respect and safety in this game. ● Students must stay within their area, letting their teammates ● Encourage students to pass to different teammates, no matter their skill level. Everyone should get a chance to catch, pass, or throw the ball before rotating out. ● Volleyball consists of making errors, so make sure students cheer each other on and stay positive. Take time to practice! Once students understand the flow of “catch, pass, and throw”, the game will pick up speed. Strategy ● After a few rotations, pause the game and talk to both teams about strategy. Have them huddle up if necessary to discuss ways they can be more successful. ○ Throwing to open spaces ○ Changing up the speed/height they throw the ball over the net
