Elementary PE Brainbooster
student will step up to pass back to the tosser. ● Once the tosser has tossed it to each student in their group, the first student who passed the ball will become the tosser and repeat the rotation. ● Once everyone has rotated through tossing and passing, the next round will be setting, where the students will set back to the tosser. Review passing and setting. ● Passing: Clasp one palm inside the other, pointing thumbs towards the group, creating a platform with the forearms. ● Setting: Spread fingers apart and rotate hands above the head, as if pouring a giant cup over the face. Contact the ball with both hands, push through like a superhero, extending hands and arms straight up. Remind tossers to toss gently to their group. ● While passing, the toss should be lower and in front of the passer. ● While setting, the toss should be arced higher, as if to land on top of the setter's forehead.
Practice andPlay
This activity is about control. Students should work on their accuracy and form.
Before transitioning back to Home Base, have students return the volleyballs back to you.
Debrief
Return to Home Base and ask the following: ● How did it feel passing the ball? Setting? ● What did respect look like in this activity?
Prepare students for the next activity.
Bubbles
Show How How to Play:
● Have students spread out within the playing area. ● The goal is to see how many “volleys” they can get (as individuals or as agroup). ● Encourage them to set or pass the ball and to hit it up towards the ceiling. ● Keep track and see if they can break the “school record” for their grade. Review how to stay safe in this game ● If each student has a balloon, tell them to keep spread out from others. If their balloon travels too far, remind them to keep an eye out for others. ● If they are working as a group, make sure they ○ Call for the balloon, saying “I got it!” ○ Stay in their own area so everyone gets a chance
