I can… 3rd: Combine skills (like throwing, passing, and setting) with movement concepts. 4th: Volley with two-hands overhead with consecutive hits. 5th: Volley a ball using a two-hand overhead skill sending it upwards. HomeBase Large rectangle boundary Volleyballs (1 per group of 4-5 students) Balloons (1 per student or 3-5 for the entire group) Vocabulary Movement Concepts: Ideas about how and where our bodies move. I use different movement concepts when I move to pass a volleyball. Materials/ Space Needed
Volley: To hit a ball before it touches the ground. We were able to volley the ball 10 times in a row!
Introduction
Begin class with a warm up procedure: ● Prepare students with daily expectations before entering the gym OR on Home Base. ● Warm up procedure may include several laps around the gym, stretching routine, or another quick, movement based activity. ● Back at Home Base, review rules/expectations of the school and
PE/Playworks with explicit examples when appropriate. ● Review any other specific reminders needed for the day.
Before releasing students for the first game, use a Sequence Touch to get them to the location you need them to be for the first activity.
Passing/Setting Practice
Show How How to Play:
● Split students up into groups of 4-5, giving each group one volleyball. ● Spread out across the gym, one student will start with the ball, facing the rest of their group, standing in a single file line. The tosser should only be about 5 steps from the first person in line. ● They will gently toss it to the first student in line, who will pass it back to the tosser. That student will go to the back of their line, and the next
