MEASURING CIRCLES (SPED Resource)

Unit 3

PACING

KEY LANGUAGE USES

Option 1: November 11 - December 3 ( 14 days) Option 2: October 10 - November 1 (15 days)

EXPLAIN

STANDARDS Standard 7.G.2 Draw geometric shapes with given conditions. Focus on constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle. Standard 7.G.4 Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems; given an informal derivation of the relationship between circumference and area of a circle. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME STUDENTS WORK WITH CIRCLES Standard 7.G.6 Solve real world and mathematical problems involving area, volume, and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms. Standard 7.EE.3 Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. END OF UNIT COMPETENCY WITH LANGUAGE SUPPORTS I can fnd the area or circumference of a fgure made up of a circle and another shape and explain my reasoning and how I found the area or circumference. Language Supports: ● Vocabulary (area, circumference, pi) Standard 7.RP.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multi-step ratio and percent problems.

DIFFERENTIATION IN ACTION

Skill Building

From Activity 9.2: MLR 1 Stronger and Clearer Each Time. After students have determined which fgure has the largest shaded region, ask students to show their work and provide a brief explanation of their reasoning. Ask
