Instructional Routine Provide students with the modified text. Allow students to preview the text independently. Pair students in groups of 4. Have students determine which type of text they will be reading out loud (underlined, bold, italicized, regular). Allow students time to read the text out loud with their group. Have students read the story independently a second time, this time with a focus on obtaining information and drawing pictures to show what is occurring in each passage. Group members then compare their drawings, confer, and make any adjustments that are needed.
