When students exhibit Intermediate Mid listening ability in French, they understand: 1. introductions, such as before an event (ex. class play, guests) 2. a short speech or presentation on a familiar topic 3. discussions about age-appropriate matters of importance (ex. attendance, behavior, an upcoming event) 4. an interview with members of the community or with famous people (ex. actors, athletes, singers) 5. a web-based presentation, such as a virtual tour 6. video presentations (ex. commercials, news, educational programs) When students exhibit Intermediate Mid writing ability in French, they can: 1. write short, simple, loosely connected texts on familiar and personal topics 2. communicate information, ideas, preferences, and opinions 3. describe people, places, daily routines, and common events 4. write requests for and provide information 5. narrate and describe primarily in the present time frame with some references to the past and future 6. use basic sentence structures and common verb forms with emerging control 7. connect simple sentences to create organized paragraphs or short compositions WRITING

END OF UNIT COMPETENCY WITH LANGUAGE EXPECTATIONS ● Describe, explain, and evaluate global challenges related to solidarity, volunteerism, education, learning communities, and the environment. ● Interpret authentic texts, media, and informational sources to analyze global issues and cultural perspectives. ● Exchange information, express opinions, and justify recommendations for addressing community and global challenges. ● Present information to inform, persuade, and propose solutions using supporting details and cultural comparisons. ● Use vocabulary related to solidarity (la solidarité), volunteerism (le bénévolat), education (l'éducation), learning communities (les communautés d'apprentissage), the environment (l'environnement), and global citizenship (la citoyenneté mondiale). ● Apply the present subjunctive to express recommendations, necessity, emotion, doubt, and possibility (Il faut que…, Il est essentiel que…, Bien que…, Pour que…). ● Organize ideas in paragraph-length speaking and writing using transition words and appropriate register for interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication.
