When students exhibit Intermediate Mid listening ability in French, they understand: 1. introductions, such as before an event (ex. class play, guests) 2. a short speech or presentation on a familiar topic 3. discussions about age-appropriate matters of importance (ex. attendance, behavior, an upcoming event) 4. an interview with members of the community or with famous people (ex. actors, athletes, singers) 5. a web-based presentation, such as a virtual tour 6. video presentations (ex. commercials, news, educational programs) When students exhibit Intermediate Mid writing ability in French, they can: 1. write short, simple, loosely connected texts on familiar and personal topics 2. communicate information, ideas, preferences, and opinions 3. describe people, places, daily routines, and common events 4. write requests for and provide information 5. narrate and describe primarily in the present time frame with some references to the past and future 6. use basic sentence structures and common verb forms with emerging control 7. connect simple sentences to create organized paragraphs or short compositions WRITING

1. short, non-complex texts that convey simple information 2. deal with basic personal and social topics to which the reader brings personal interest or knowledge, although some misunderstandings may occur. 3. some meaning from short connected texts that feature description and narration and deal with familiar topics.

Ask and answer questions to gain information and sustain a conversation. 4. Ask for and provide examples to clarify ideas. 5. Communicate to meet everyday needs. 6. Describe, summarize, and discuss events and experiences in present, past, and future time frames. 7. Give a presentation on a familiar topic.

END OF UNIT COMPETENCY WITH LANGUAGE EXPECTATIONS ● Describe, compare, and discuss contemporary life, including advertising, education, housing, celebrations, leisure, and sports using appropriate vocabulary. ● Interpret authentic advertisements, media, and informational texts to identify cultural perspectives, practices, and products. ● Exchange information, express opinions, and justify ideas about contemporary issues and everyday life in Francophone cultures. ● Present information to inform, persuade, and compare using cultural examples and supporting details. ● Use vocabulary related to advertising and marketing, education, holidays and celebrations, housing and shelter, leisure activities, and sports. ● Apply the passé composé to narrate past events and experiences. ● Use direct and indirect object pronouns (le, la, les, lui, leur, y, en) to communicate with greater accuracy and fl uency. ● Organize ideas in paragraph-length speaking and writing using transition words and appropriate register for interpersonal and presentational communication. ● Demonstrate appropriate register and organized communication in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational tasks.
