LEARNING PROGRESSIONS FOR INTERMEDIATE - LOW PROFICIENCY READING LISTENING When students exhibit Intermediate Low reading ability, they can understand: 1. messages about familiar topics of interest 2. practical, everyday information
When students exhibit Intermediate Low listening ability, they can understand: 1. short conversations and presentations on familiar topics. 2. instructions and multi-step directions, especially when supported by visuals or gestures.
3. detailed directions and instructions 4. content-area texts on familiar topics
3. media presentations on familiar topics. 4. information related to school subjects.
SPEAKING
WRITING
When students exhibit Intermediate Low speaking ability, they can: 1. hold simple conversations on familiar topics. 2. ask and answer questions to exchange and clarify information. 3. express opinions, reactions, and emotions. 4. describe experiences, routines, and events in the present, with emerging ability in past and future timeframes. 5. give simple presentations on familiar topics. 6. communicate to meet everyday needs.
When students exhibit Intermediate Low writing ability they can: 1. can write about things they know (e.g., information from subjects being studied; self; family; friends) 2. express opinion or point of view on familiar topics 3. compose questions to clarify 4. tell about what happens at certain events or on certain days 5. tell about what happened or what will happen in a story or at an event (only emerging ability)
