Focus Principles of Art

PATTERN - Integrate patterns into a variety of artworks and media. BALANCE - Demonstrate asymmetrical balance.

CONTRAST - Explore contrast using various artistic elements such as line or texture. UNITY - Explore how repetition of artistic elements can create unity in a piece of art. MOVEMENT - Explore how artistic elements such as line, shape, or color can guide the eye to create movement in a work of art.

Focus Elements of Art

COLOR - Mix colors. Identify and intentionally use warm, cool, neutral, complementary & analogous colors. VALUE - Tint and shade on forms. LINE - Use a variety of lines. SHAPE - Identify and intentionally use geometric/organic & 2D/3D shapes. FORM - Identify and create three-dimensional objects that include length, width, and height.

TEXTURE - Experiment with texture. Use lines to create visual texture. SPACE - Use positive/negative space and symmetry/asymmetry. ​
