Step 2, Option 1: Students create posters of tall tale heroes Students will create a poster with an illustration of an original tall tale hero and 5-7 hyperbolic statements about the character’s traits or adventures. You will need to introduce the concept of character, setting, and hyperbole. You may also choose to have students work on this in pairs, groups, or as a whole class. Show the example poster and review character, setting, and hyperbole. Give examples of exaggeration. You may use sentence starters to support students’ writing. Step 2, Option 2: Student write original tall tale Students will write an original tall tale. You may choose to work on this in pairs, groups, or as a whole class. You may provide story planning graphic organizers, sentence starters, and transition word lists to support student writing. Provide students time to show their work.
