WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students warmly at the library door. Follow opening procedures to prepare students for learning. Pair students. Instruct them that you will be asking a discussion question and their job is to quietly share their answer with their partner.

Say: When I ask the question, whisper to your partner your answer, take turns sharing, and when you are both finished stop talking and touch your finger to your nose. Ready? Why do people write lists?

Remind the class of the instructions as they discuss. Have partners share answers to the whole group.
