WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students warmly at the library door. Proceed with opening procedures to prepare students for learning. Have large paper and markers or colored pencils at every table. Instruct students not to touch supplies until you use the Go word. Say: We are talking about “media” today. Many of us have heard that word before. Think about what you know about media. You will work with your tables to come up with a definition of media and then list as many examples as you can think of on your poster. Your definition must be written, but you can write or draw your examples. You have 3 minutes and I’ll put a timer up on the board. Alright, here is our Go word…
While students work, circulate the room, ask leading questions and prompt students to stay on task.
Bring class back to attention.
Say: I noticed some terrific work today. Media is anything we can see, hear, or feel that is created by someone for another person. Media always has a message. After hearing that definition, is there anything you would add or take away from your definition? Are there any other examples you would add? Do it now. You have 1 minute to revise your work.
