OBJECTIVE Say: We have been learning that the library is a special shared space in our school that has many wonderful books for you to read. No two students like exactly the same things all the time. It’s so important that everyone gets the chance to read what they want, which is why we practice respect for choices and differences in the library. What does respect mean? [responses could include being kind, saying nice things to each other, listening to each other]

Display and read “I can” statement: I can respect others’ book choices.

Say: Today, we are learning to respect each other’s book choices. You may not like a book another student is checking out and reading. We are going to read a few books to help us understand what respecting and celebrating differences looks like. While we read, we are going to keep practicing whole body listening.

Display and read “I can” statement: I can listen to stories.

Say: I know we can learn and show both of these things today!
