4th Grade Math Scope & Sequence Topic 11 Represent and Interpret Data on Line Plots

FLEXIBLE PACING STANDARDS

REPORTING STANDARDS

KEY LANGUAGE USE

● Make line plots and use them to solve addition and subtraction problems

Standard of Mathematical Practice #3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

Topics 9-12

Explain

Jan 27 - Apr 4 25 Lessons 47days

Content Standards: Standard 4.MD.4 Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (halves, quarters, and eighths). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction with like denominators of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, use a line plot to fnd and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest pencils in a classroom.

DWSBA Window Mar. 28 - Apr 18

End of Unit Competency

By the end of Topic 11 students will be able to explain how to make a line plot and solve problems using data on a line plot.

Language Functions & Features Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using: ● Mathematical terms ( data, line plot, analyze, scale, represent, organize ) ● Visuals ( line plots, charts, table) to support approach, solution and/or extract information. ● Observations ( notice, it appears, looks like, the line plot shows ) and comparative language ( different from, similar to, the same ) to share results ( eg. The line plot shows that the greatest number of gallons was… ) ● Declarative statements to state conclusion (eg. The value that occurred most often would change because… )
