DLI 4th Grade Guide
4th Grade Math Scope & Sequence
Standard 4.NBT.4 Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Standard 4.NBT.5 Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models. Standard 4.NBT.6 Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
End of Unit Competency
By the end of Topic 6 students will be able to explain how comparing with multiplication is different from comparing with addition and how to use equations to solve multi-step problems. Language Functions & Features Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using: ● Mathematical terms ( hidden question, comparison, expression, equation, doubled ) ● Observations ( notice, it appears, looks like ) and comparative language ( times as many as, more than ) to share results ( My estimate is reasonable because the exact quotient… ) ● Visuals ( bar diagrams ) to support approach, solution and/or extract information
