Expressions and Equations The Number System

• Write and interpret numerical expressions o Use parenthesis, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions and evaluate expression with these symbols o Write simple expressions and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them • Analyze patterns and relationships

• Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents • Read, write and evaluate expressions in which letter represent numbers • Perform operations applying the Order of Operations • Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions • Identify when two expressions are equivalent • Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world problem • Understand solving an equation or inequality • Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values • Understand a rational number as a point on the number line • Understand ordering and absolute value of rational numbers • Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants • Fluently divide multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm • Fluently add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers using the standard algorithm • Find the GCF of two numbers less than or equal to 100 and the LCM of two numbers less than or equal to 12
