Student Stakeholder Surveys Student survey results give teachers the opportunity to understand their students’ experiences in their classroom. Each survey asks students to rate their classroom experience regarding key aspects of the instructional environment, such as student engagement and academic rigor. There are three versions of the student survey: Early Elementary (K-2), Elementary (3-5), and Secondary (6-12) (see appendix). In each version, students indicate the degree to which they believe each statement to be true. Parent Stakeholder Surveys Parent perceptions of a school are a result of their experience with the whole system: their interactions with their child’s teacher, with administrators, with school office staff, and with various other support staff such as school counselors and school psychologists. Parent surveys are administered electronically. Parents receive e-mail invitations from the District for each school where they have students enrolled. Survey results are summarized and provided to all school employees for reflection. School staff use the summary of parent perception feedback to work together to improve communication, school climate, and academic support. Procedures for Administering Student Surveys The student surveys are administered electronically through CSD's Data Dashboard. Electronic administration has the advantages of timely feedback for teachers as well as confidentiality of student responses. A proctor (someone other than the classroom teacher and typically a colleague) follows a written script for administration of the student survey. Students can respond using a variety of electronic devices, including iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, or desktop computers. Individual school sites support the coordination of and access to available computer labs and technology carts so that all teachers can administer the surveys within the open survey window. At the elementary level, all students complete the survey on their classroom teacher. The items are read aloud and students respond using simple icons representing the three response choices: “Yes,” “Sometimes,” or “No.” At the secondary level, administrators identify a specific class period across the school and students in those class periods are surveyed. General instructions are read aloud to the students and then students independently respond to the items electronically. Response to Stakeholder Input Survey results in aggregated form are available for teachers to view electronically on CSD’s CTESS Dashboard as soon as the survey window closes to allow teachers enough time in the school year to obtain and reflect on survey results, develop a planned response, implement their plan, and collect evidence of progress on their plan. Individual teachers and their administrators will be able to view survey results without any identifying student or parent information. Survey results are used for feedback purposes in order to inform teacher practice and to support teachers’ continued professional growth. Teachers in the summative evaluation year are rated on their plan to address the findings from student and parent input and their evidence of progress on accomplishing their plan. The Response to Stakeholder Input template guides teachers in developing a response to student and parent feedback. NOTE: The parent survey is designed to elicit feedback for the school as a whole, rather than for particular teachers or staff members.
