Student Growth Goal Setting and Reflections (Teacher Responsibility)
All teachers are required to submit a Student Growth Goal and reflect on student growth on two occasions during the school year: (1) at mid-year, and (2) at the end of the year. The process for completing the CTESS Student Growth Template involves: • developing a Student Growth Goal, and then • implementing the plan and reflecting on progress.
Teachers’ reflections on their students’ yearly growth and instructional adjustments are the basis for how administrators rate the Student Growth Element of CTESS.
Completion of the CTESS Student Growth Goal Setting and Reflection Template involves developing a Student Growth Goal and reflecting on student growth in the following timeline: • In August , teachers (or teams of teachers) review their school’s goals and available student data in order to develop goals that reflect desired growth in student performance. • By September 30 , all teachers must each submit a Student Growth Goal based on their student data. Administrators may grant an extension, as needed, for special circumstances such as illness or family emergency. Teachers who do not submit their Student Growth Goal by the due date will receive an e-mail from their school administrator regarding this requirement for educator evaluation. Teachers who do not submit their Professional Learning Goal by the due date will receive a reminder e mail. If teachers still do not submit their Professional Learning Goal after receiving the reminder e-mail, they will then receive a Memo of Concern from their school administrator. • Administrators may provide feedback regarding individual Student Growth Goals and request revisions as needed. • In January and April , teachers receive an e- mail reminder to review their students’ data, reflect on student growth, plan instructional adjustments as necessary, and submit documentation by the set due dates. • By January 30 , teachers review student progress toward their Student Growth Goal and submit documentation of their reflections on student growth and planned instructional adjustments. • By May 15 , teachers again review student progress toward their Student Growth Goal and submit documentation of their reflections on student growth and instructional adjustments. For educators in their summative year, teachers’ Student Growth G oal submissions and Student Growth Reflection submissions impact their effectiveness rating on Standard 10 and on the Student Growth element of CTESS. Part 1: Completing the Student Growth Goal Teachers will review their most recent student performance data in order to establish an ambitious, but achievable, Student Growth Goal that reflects desired growth in student performance for the school year. The steps below detail how teachers develop a Student Growth Goal: Step 1: Individually (or with your team), teachers will use student data to target the content and/or practice standard(s) that will increase the likelihood that students will be successful in demonstrating student growth. • Using student data, determine where gaps in student learning are occurring. In the absence of District-wide Standards-Based Assessment or common formative assessment data, use current classroom data. • Identify which content and/or practice standard will target those learning gaps. • Identify the skills that students need to know, understand, and be able to do to master the targeted content/practice standard.
