● I can develop a model to show the parts of a cell system and how they help the cell perform its functions.
● Have students frost and decorate sugar cookies to resemble a plant or animal cell. For example, the frosting is the cytoplasm, hot tamales are mitochondria. Students should make a key for their cell. Students should be able to justify why they chose certain items to represent organelles. ● Student will create a cell model using one of the following as the cell: house, city, factory, hotel, school, airport, mall or one of your own ideas ● The cell model must include the following parts: nucleus, cell wall, cell membrane, chloroplasts, and mitochondria; the model must also include functions of these parts.
