Use Manipuatives: Previously, students used place-value blocks to represent ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. Now, with decimals, the blocks take on different meanings. The flat now represents 1, the rod represents 0.1, and a single cube represents 0.01. Be sure students recognize these new representations, and use the correct terms and notation when referring to the blocks.
