By the end of Topic 11 students will be able to justify strategies for subtracting numbers to 1,000.

● Mathematical terms ( subtract, model, solve, partial differences ) ● Past tense doing verbs (measured, converted) and thinking verbs (remembered, thought, fgured out) to recount steps ● Visuals ( number line, place-value blocks, charts ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Connectors to order steps (frst, next, then ) and indicate reasons ( because, so, that means, as a result )
