INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMOTIVE
Performance ^Ŭŝůů Understand proper techniques in removal and installation of tires and wheels. x Inspect tires for abnormal wear. x Dismount, inspect, and remount a tire on a wheel (including TPMS). x Properly rotate tires and reinstall using proper torque procedures. x Use a tire balancer to balance tires of a vehicle using proper procedures.
x Locate a leak and identify proper repair procedures. x Interpret tire sidewall markings: size, inflation, and load.
STRAND 4 Students will be able to identify and perform basic services on a vehicle. Standard 1 Identify basic automotive parts and functions. x Identify engine parts.
x Block, crankshaft, camshaft, piston, cylinder head, connecting rod, valve train, timing components. x Fuel systems: injector, filter, lines, pump, tank. x Ignition systems: spark plugs, coil(s). x Cooling systems: radiator, pump, thermostat. x Identify drive train parts. x Manual transmission. x Automatic transmission. x Drivelines. x Drive axels. x Identify brake parts. x Master cylinder, lines, caliper, rotor, drum, wheel cylinder, pads, shoes. x Identify steering and suspension parts. x Steering gear. x Tie-rod. x Shocks/struts. x Springs: leaf, coil, torsion bar, air. x Identify electrical parts. x Battery x Alternator x Starter x Circuit protection: fuse, breaker Standard 2 Based on the manufacture’s specifications, perform under hood checks. x Inspect and adjust available fluid levels. x Check belt tension and condition. x Check condition of hoses.
