Standard 6 Inspect four-wheel drive/all-wheel drive front-wheel bearings and locking hubs. Performance ^Ŭŝůů Understand, inspect, diagnose, and service the basics of a manual drive train and axels. x Drain and refill manual transmission/transaxle and final drive unit. x Check for system leaks around the clutch. x Describe the operational characteristics of an electronically-controlled manual transmission/transaxle. x Drive shaft, half shafts, universal and constant-velocity (CV) joints x Inspect four-wheel drive/all-wheel drive front-wheel bearings and locking hubs. STRAND 4 Students will be able to understand, inspect, diagnose, and service basic suspension and steering systems. Standard 1 Disable and enable supplemental restraint system (SRS). Standard 2 Related suspension and steering service. x Inspect rack and pinion steering gear inner tie rod ends (sockets) and bellows boots. x Flush, fill, and bleed power steering system. x Inspect for power steering fluid leakage; determine necessary action. x Remove, inspect, replace, and adjust power steering pump drive belt. x Inspect and replace power steering hoses and fittings. x Inspect pitman arm, relay (centerlink/intermediate) rod, idler arm and mountings, and steering linkage damper. x Inspect tie rod ends (sockets), tie rod sleeves, and clamps. x Inspect and replace rebound and jounce bumpers. x Inspect track bar, strut rods/radius arms, and related mounts and bushings. x Inspect upper and lower ball joints (with or without wear indicators). x Inspect suspension system coil springs and spring insulators (silencers). x Inspect suspension system torsion bars and mounts. x Inspect and replace front stabilizer bar (sway bar) bushings, brackets, and links. x Inspect strut cartridge or assembly. x Inspect front strut bearing and mount. x Inspect rear suspension system leaf spring(s), spring insulators (silencers), shackles, brackets, bushings, center pins/bolts, and mounts. x Inspect, remove, and replace shock absorbers; inspect mounts and bushings.
