Read aloud the text and omit words while students follow along silently and chime in chorally with the missing words.
Oral Cloze 1
Read aloud the text, increase the pace slightly, and omit different words.
Repeat steps above, but increase the pace.

Assign an active reading question or task, read aloud as students follow along silently, and partner students to discuss responses. Read a poem, a short text, or a chunk of a longer text out loud together with students. Students read the text three times: once silently to choose words to omit, once aloud to their partner, and once following along and chiming in with the words their partner leaves out.
