McGraw Hill Unit 2: Using Energy
GRADE 4 SCIENCE
Module: Energy Transfer
Total Time: 430 Min. About 3 Weeks
Lesson 2: Sound & Light Lesson 3: Electricity Lesson 4: Heat *Components from McGraw Hill Lessons 2 - 4 will be utilized to teach standards 4.2.3 & 4.2.4. The Module Opener will be used for the phenomena instead of the individual lesson phenomena.
STANDARD 4.2.3 Plan and carry out an investigation to gather evidence from observations that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electrical currents. Examples could include sound causing objects to vibrate and electric currents being used to produce motion or light. (PS3.A, PS3.B) 4.2.4 Design a device that converts energy from one form to another. Defne the problem, identify criteria and constraints, develop possible solutions using models, analyze data from testing solutions, and propose modifcations for optimizing a solution. Emphasize identifying the initial and fnal forms of energy. Examples could include solar ovens that convert light energy to heat energy or a simple alarm system that converts motion energy into sound energy. (PS3.B, PS3.D, ETS1.A, ETS1.B, ETS1.C) CONCEPTS SKILLS ● Energy can be transferred from place to place by sound ● Energy can be transferred from place to play by light ● Energy can be transferred from place to play by heat ● Energy can be transferred from place to play by electrical currents ● Plan investigation ● Carry out investigation ● Gather Evidence ● Design a Device
